Weather Spotters Frequency Lists

  • KC Metro Weather Radars: Sm0kenet.net Radar Page
  • KC Metro Interactive Radar: An Interactive Radar Page

As all columnists seem to do, I will include some frequencies that are probably well known by most, but are important and should be repeated this time of year.
With the storm season about to break squelch, everyone ought to have weather related frequencies in their radio.

  • M.E.R.S. WX- Kansas City 154.1300 (151.4) repeated (old 158.820 soon to be shut down if not already.)

MERS is the Metro Emergency Radios System. Mostly weather related stuff. No mobiles, only dispatch centers.

Here is a listening tip. Listen to weather spotters in agencies to your west...they report what is heading your way. When bad weather is broadcast on your local spotter channel, it is usually too late...especially if you live at the west end of the county like I do. The sound of hail or the howl of high winds at my house mean that in about 5 minutes the county will put out a notice that hail and/or high winds are heading my way. Your tax dollars at work!

Dale has a couple of great freqs for us Kansans. They are the severe weather/tornado chase team frequencies for the Severe Storm Lab of Norman, Oklahoma.
The primary channel is 165.435, which is a repeater that is physically in the airplane. A car to car freq is 163.100.
