As all columnists seem to do, I will include some frequencies that are probably well known by most, but are important and should be repeated this time of year.
With the storm season about to break squelch, everyone ought to have weather related frequencies in their radio.
MERS is the Metro Emergency Radios System. Mostly weather related stuff. No mobiles, only dispatch centers.
Here is a listening tip. Listen to weather spotters in agencies to your west...they report what is heading your way. When bad weather is broadcast on your local spotter channel, it is usually too late...especially if you live at the west end of the county like I do. The sound of hail or the howl of high winds at my house mean that in about 5 minutes the county will put out a notice that hail and/or high winds are heading my way. Your tax dollars at work!
